Intern Update

Posted

Hello Happy People!

Well, this is the first and last intern update you will be receiving from me. I will be heading back to school soon, so I figured there is no better time to reflect on what I've learned during my time at 9HappyPeople than on my last day.

First let me start by saying that I'm grateful for the opportunity and this experience has been eye opening. I didn't think that I would be doing something like this during my summer at home and I'm glad that I decided to apply for the position.

The most important thing I've learned from my time here is what it takes to run a small business, and more than that what it takes to run a startup. I knew that I would be doing a lot during my time here. I expected to be folding shirts and posting on social media. But I didn't think that I would be changing/creating webpages for a website, or coming up with ideas on how to get potential customers to engage with the brand and spread the word about what we are trying to achieve here(which is job creation and job training in under-served communities). I've gotten to see first hand how items are packaged and shipped, how looking at website analytics turns into marketing strategies, and that more thought goes into a single tweet than expected.

Overall, I would say that 9HappyPeople has helped me to understand what I'm looking for in a job and how I want my career to look in the future. I may not know what that is yet, but I do know this. Just like in life, a successful business is made through trial and error. Sometimes it doesn’t turn out the way you want to. But there are times when the result is truly great.

Thank you for the lessons. Be Happy!
